"The most important requirement (for leadership) is to have a team with a common purpose."

GENERAL SIR MIKE JACKSON
FORMER CHIEF OF THE GENERAL STAFF AND NOW SENIOR ADVISOR AND CHAIRMAN OF PA‘S DEFENCE ADVISORY BOARD

Leadership and operations excellence

"Leadership is at least as much art as science. To some extent leadership ability is innate. However, while it cannot be learned by rote, it can be developed, nurtured and studied. The same broad principles apply to leadership whatever the endeavour.  The most important requirement is to have a team with a common purpose.”

General Sir Mike Jackson
Former chief of the general staff and now senior advisor
and chairman of PA's defence advisory board.

On 11th November PA Consulting Group held a breakfast roundtable discussion on “Leadership and its role in delivering operations excellence”. The event explored the need to adapt leadership styles and capabilities to meet ever-changing operational needs. What is leadership? Why is it essential to achieving operational excellence? Why do organisations need different leadership styles in different economic scenarios? What is the best approach in light of the current economic scenario? And what are the hard questions that all leaders must answer?

All these questions and more are answered in our outline of the emerging themes and discussions from the event, including highlights from the keynote speaker General Sir Mike Jackson, former Chief of the General Staff and now senior advisor and chairman of PA‘s defence advisory board.
