Philips Domestic Appliances and Personal Care (DAP) - improving on time delivery

IT speeds up the innovation cycle by making production more predictable - PA Consulting Group improved Philips DAP's on time delivery by 40%

Philips DAP is a global market leader for electric shavers with unique products. Its Innovation Means and Services (IMS) department supplies models, prototypes and equipment to both the innovation department and production operations worldwide. Within the entire innovation chain, this activity is often on the critical path. However, due to operational shortcomings, IMS were unable to provide their customers with realistic delivery dates, suffered from short throughput times and poor on time delivery.

The solution: IMS needed to change the way it operated by implementing an integrated information system. According to the IMS Manager, “PA’s way of working together with employees was an important success factor for the acceptance of the system”. In a six-month period, PA implemented the process changes and the IT system - on schedule and on budget. As a result, on time delivery increased from 35% to 75% in just four months and was expected to rise to 90% over the following six months.
