Podcast: Clouds, trees and cyber security
PA’s David Elton, IT change management expert, has contributed to the Financial Times ‘The Connected Business’ podcast. The podcast looks at the findings of the 2011 PA and Harvey Nash international survey of 2500 CIOs.
The survey looks at the growing security threat faced by business and governments online, the consumerisation of business IT, the need for CIOs to drive innovation and sourcing and the arrival of cloud.
David is asked what the research reveals about how companies are sourcing their technology. David’s view is that the sourcing market is maturing and some organisations are increasing their levels of sourcing while others are maintaining levels. David points out that the public cloud is the area of real interest, and it is a mixed picture in terms of use.
David goes on to comment on whether cloud is changing the role of IT department. David’s view is that it isn’t changing significantly, as the department already has commercial role. The main change with cloud is that it offers the IT department an increased opportunity to provide cost saving.
David goes on to comment that the challenge with cloud is ensuring a consistent policy across the business and migrating to the cloud.
