This article in Government Computing looks at how councils are taking a more strategic approach to managing enterprise information, the factors which are driving this change and some of the key challenges councils face when trying to use enterprise information as an asset.

PA Consulting Group’s Andy Vernon, an expert in information management and assurance for the public sector, is quoted in the article, commenting on the impact of the diverse nature of councils and what this means: "Joining up information management and getting a common, consistent corporate approach is a huge challenge. There’s often also an inability to find information owners at a sufficiently high level to put things on the board agenda, which means that responsibility gravitates towards IT directors who don’t necessarily sit on the senior management team."
