The hype about ‘cloud computing’ is growing but, despite the benefits it can provide, it should be treated with caution

Rob Gear, manager of the innovation unit at PA Consulting Group says: "‘Cloud computing’ has been around for a few years now, but this year the hype has built up to fever pitch."

He adds: "If you are buying SAAS and have a clear idea of your likely usage, you can lock down the cost. But with infrastructure as a service, that can be more muddled unless you have a very clear idea of your likely demand. There’s also a question whether you will be locked into one service provider or whether you will be able to migrate to another without difficulty."
