Building on our progress in sustainability and corporate social responsibility
PA contributes to the sustainability agenda both through our client work – delivering successful projects in green IT, agriculture, sustainable tourism, smart grid technology and lean manufacturing – and through the initiatives we run within our own firm.
We are doing some remarkable work to help our clients meet the environmental challenge. We have long been renowned as experts in the energy arena and we take great pride in the fact that, in 2009, this expertise led to our taking a lead role in Obama’s Coalition for the Green Bank, an organisation that is playing a crucial role in helping to jump-start renewable energy development in the US.
During 2009, we took further steps to reduce our own carbon footprint through significant improvements to our buildings and technology, generating savings through improvements in travel, energy efficiency, recycling and renewable energy.
As a result of these initiatives, we achieved a six per cent reduction in our carbon footprint over the year. And our people continued to put their consulting skills to good use in the community, through our Giving Back and Volunteering scheme. PA has donated consulting time and expertise to a variety of projects this year, from launching a biogas programme in villages in rural Kenya, setting up a new organisation in the UK to help the homeless, to bringing business development and networking expertise to charities and social enterprises.
